A Discourse Approach in Reading Summary

Summary
The teacher taught me many techniques in this course, like how to find the main idea, title, cause markers, effect markers, definable markers, classification markers, problem markers, solution markers. How to created graphic organizer. How to analyze the structure of the text. The teacher always taught us ethics and morality. I will use the techniques that you taught me improve my skill and teach the other. Thank you for  everything.

Problem and solution(continued)

The teacher told us tests score. Then, checked homework by checked the answers with partners After that, the teacher reads the text and taught us found title, main idea and created graphic organizer on the white board. I did exercises by finding the problem and solution marker and created graphic organizer. Next, I found the title and main idea.

The teacher gave us worksheet “Problem and solution” and taught how to find the problem and solution and created the problem and solution graphic organizer. Then, I did 4 exercises and the teacher assigned us to do homework. Next, I had tested for
1 hour. The test is rather difficult for me.

The teacher checked homework about “Exemplification” by writing the answers on the white board and ordered us found main idea and cause marker. Then, the teacher taught us “Problem solution” and ordered us make the group and did created a diagram Problem solution in my group created a diagram about “The problem and solution of Games addiction” and present my friends

On the morning we study Definition and Classificative. The teacher explained how to find definition and classificative and gave us a worksheet. Then the teacher ordered did exercise and drew a diagram on the white board. Next, the teacher checked the answer and solved the wrong sentences. 
On the afternoon we study Exemplification
The teacher explained how to find exemplification and cause marker. Then, the teacher gave us a worksheet and ordered us to do exercises with drew diagram on the white board After that, the teacher assigned us to do homework and watched our friend’s present video “How to cook food? “ 4 group and my group present at the last finished class.

The teacher checked homework about “The Effects of Stress” in exercise 1 chose multiple choice and in exercise 2 sentences by choosing the best ending. Then, found main idea. While we had been studying the electric was Power Outage and air-conditions stopped working. The teacher told us to go out form the classroom and ordered us found cause marker. We wait until the electric worked.
We come in the classroom. We watched our friend’s present video “How to cook food? “ 5 group and finished class.

In the morning the teacher checked homework in text 1 about “Similarities and Difference between New York and Paris subway station” and text 2 about “Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Katrina in the United States” by ordering student wrote the answer on the white board and found a topic and main idea. In text 3 about “Men and Women: Do They Speak the Same Language? By Deborah Tannen the teacher ordered us found main idea and checked homework by finding the answer in the text.
After that, we watched our friend’s present video “How to cook food? “ 3 group and had lunch for 1 hour.
In the Afternoon, we started unit 6 “Cause and Effect” the teacher taught how to found cause and effect, and gave us worksheets. The teacher ordered us read the text and found cause makers. Then, ordered student create the diagram on the white board. Next, the teacher assigned us to do homework. Finally, we watched our friend’s present video “How to cook food? “ 3 group.
After finishing class I’m very tired and wanted to sleep.

Answer I agree with Tannen’s views on the different language of men and women sometimes they misunderstand when they converted. Because they interpret different meaning
b.  Are any of Tannen’s point about the different personalities of men and women true in your native culture? Explain. Do men and women in your native culture use the language the way Tannen claims American men and women do? Give specific example.
Answer To day in my culture women can talk to show their skill and knowledge like men.

Answer In my cultural men and women have social equity. They can show social role as well.  But in my country have someone believe that men above than women.

We study about “Comparison and Contrast“
The teacher asked us about same and different of Chang Mai and Bangkok. Then, wrote on the white board. After that, the teacher opened apple and orange picture, and ordered us discussed comparison and contrast with a partner and wrote on the white board. Next, the teacher gave us worksheets and explained the meaning and purpose of comparison and contrast. The teacher taught us in text 1 by read the text and observe its organization and wrote on the white board.
Finally, the teacher assigned us to do homework.


Procedure

Procedure or instruction is to tell us how something is accomplished through a sequence of actions or steps. It is very important genre in our society because it enables us to get things done,and it us equally common in the oral and written mode (Derewianka,1991:27)

  First of all,teacher opened how to make banana shake and banana cake. Then asked us what is that. That was introducing to lesson of procedure. After that,she gave worksheets about procedure for us.

Then, I did exercise 1 by putting the number of steps about how to make Omelet and checked it by writing on white board. Exercise 2 read how to make Chicken soup and answer the question. Exercise 3 read how to use a toaster and answer the question in part 1 chose a choice, part 2 wrote the answer, part 3 put true (T) or False (F) ,and part 4 completed the sentences. Finally, the teacher told us next week have midterm exam and ordered student make Video about how to cook and presents on next Sunday.
I should read books and review the lessons.

Do you remember this guy ? 

we learned the story of Komodo dragons that the teacher asked us to do homework. So she ordered us to checked homework with friends and answered homework for us too.







Then we learned about Budapest,the capital city of Hungary and Prague, capital of Czeck Republic.






Teacher Usa assigned us to divided group by 4-5 people per groups and draw lots to do a groupwork. We got topic ''places". She gave 1 a4 paper to every groups and asked us to describe appearances from the topic that each group got. We described about London, the capital of England. Let's see what we wrote about it.

Examnation  about recount and narratives

my brain be like this when I have test




When we finished the test, She opened three kinds of picture(animals,places and people) on the LCD projector to us and asked us to described them. That was she taught us new topic. It's descriptive.


After that, the teacher asked us to wrote words about Komodo dragons in spiderweb on a whiteboard.











 Then she asked us to read the text about Komodo dragon and did the exercise. We got homework like every weeks.
I knew story about more than I've known before. It was not too difficult. I love this lesson but I'm afraid of them!

The teacher ordered us checked homework with a partner and told students wrote the answer on white board. Then, the teacher checked homework and ordered us did exercise. The teacher asked for volunteers 6 persons wrote the answer on white board. The teacher checked the answer and ordered us made group for discussed the answer next exercise by choose the three words was important about the secrets story by Tim Winton. After that, we found summarized the 3 words from all groups.
The three word include neglect, conflict between different generations and loneliness


The summary of this story
Kylie feels left out from her mother and Philip’s activities. She becomes interested in the chickens in the yard. Somehow her secret helps her to feel less lonely. She finds a second egg and then finds out where others are being laid by an unhealthy – looking hen. Later, she fines raggedy hen, another egg and shares her secret with hen. Then the step- father, her not to open the lid of fine bore well but she does. Every day, she looks at her photo album and misses her father. She wants to live with him. Two weeks passed Kylie watches the hen sitting on the eggs. Every day, she takes the lid of the well and starts to go down with her photo album. Then, she watches Philip and her mother and wonder why her father is not with them. One day, Philip discovers her in the well and hit her .That evening, she throws the chicks down the well. Next, she hit the hen and throws down it the well. At the end of this story Kylie choose one special photo which makes her feel good and cut off her head and throws it away.

Narratives

At the first time, teacher Usa asked us to checked answers with a partner then she answered the questions in the exercise. I felt disappointed a little bit because my answers were correct 2 from 10. So I will try more and more!


             Next, She started unit 2, narratives by opened 12 sentences in Microsoft word and asked us to read aloud then she translated them and asked us "What is the topic of unit 2?" And we answered her. 

             Then she gave out worksheets for us and assighned us to do the exercise in page 52 by put a cross on line in the circle, at an appropriate point, to show how you felt as a child. The scale goes from 0-6. 0 means not at all and 6 means very much. Then find classmate who has similar to your secret wheel and talk about how you felt as a child with your partner.

Then we started to read narratives in the topic "Secret"
in our worksheets by read faster and don't stop to find meaning of difficult words and when we finished it, we found recount.



Who? : Kylie, Kylie's mother , Philip , her father

What?: Kylie found an egg in the yard and she kept it as a secret.

Where?: The new house , gravevines , the yard


Summary: Kylie has move to the new house with her mother and Philip. She found an egg at the back of the yard so she kept it as a secret.



After that, She ordered us to do homework by complete the summary of "Secrets" by adding there fairly short sentences.
Homework

The first, teacher asked us to check our answers in the worksheets with a partner. I checked it with Auttawut. Our answers were almost same. I was glad so much.


Next, teacher taught us about types of recount, how to distinguish structure of recount and language features!


                                                     Types of Recount
1.Personal Recount - retelling of an activity that the writer/speaker
has been personally involved in


2. Factual Recount - recording the particulars of an incident like a report of a science experiment, police report, news report, historical account)

3. Imaginative Recount - taking on an imaginary role and giving details of events

1. Orientation : giving the reader/listener the background information 
2. Events : giving the reader/listener a series of events

3. Reorientation : look like a conclusion of text


1.  What do you think about this incident?
ANSWER Opening an AEC is maybe easier for caused the stealth drugs come into the country.

Introduction of recount (The second semester)

First of all, teacher told us about our grades of English reading strategies in last semester then gave us course outline and described about it such as objectives of this course, classroom rules etc.


Next, she gave the first worksheets for us and taught us about imaginative recount then she asked us to analysed the text in exercise.

The next activity was read the text 'My Grandpa's Funeral in Toraja', searched the meaning of difficult words in the text and answered questions of her.



Finally she asked us to do homework in page 4-5 and let us have lunch.
